Braille recognition software allows people to read both single and double sided braille texts with a standard scanner. The information that is retrieved by the scanner is presented as text that can be used in many different applications. Once converted into computer text files, the information can be used immediately or stored for later use.
A three step process is involved in braille recognition software, that is:
- Braille page recognition when scanner detects braille characters
- Braille page manipulation enabling braille to be rotated or front and back sides to be swapped
- Text editing which enables common text editing on the converted braille text.
Workplace solutions and adjustments
In the workplace braille recognition software enables a straight forward method of written communication in the workplace between people with vision impairment and those without. People will not require experience reading braille to communicate with fellow colleagues who use braille.
