Colour coding can be used in various ways in the workplace including for:
- identification of different folders
- identification of different items such as hazardous chemicals
- in filing systems to make it easier to search for documents
- highlighting specific areas within a document.
Ways to colour-code include using:
- highlighters
- a copy machine and coloured paper
- post it notes
- coloured tabs
- coloured labels or
- coloured print.

Colour coding can be helpful for people with cognitive difficulties as it can provide easy access to information, make information finding a simpler task and can help improve organisational skills:
