Computer access is an essential part of many work roles. Using a computer can be difficult for people with physical, visual, hearing and/or learning difficulties.
Workplace solutions and adjustments
There are various assistive equipment options that can enable easier and more independent use of the computer including:
- using an alternative mouse to enable ease of use and reduce discomfort
- using an alternative keyboard to enable better positioning or use with one hand
- using specific software to enable easier access to the computer, such as magnification software and speech recognition software
- specialised equipment such as Braille printers, Braille displays and large monitors
- adjusting existing equipment to enable easier use, such as screen filters, screen magnifiers and document holders
- changing computer operating systems to enable easier access
- using webcams to communicate with others
