A food splatter guard is a metal mesh device which is usually circular in shape so that it can be placed over a frying pan to prevent hot contents, for example oil, from splashing out of the pan. It is useful when frying food at high temperatures as this is when hot contents are more likely to splash out of the pan. A food splatter guard serves two purposes, one is to prevent burns and the other is to prevent stains.
Food splatter guards can be tiered in order to fit on different sized frying pans, they also have long handles which stay cool for easy and safe placement and removal on and off the pan.
Workplace solutions and adjustments
Food splatter guards may be useful in the workplace if the work role requires frying food at high temperatures. For people with vision impairment, poor upper limb control or cognitive difficulties, food splatter guards can allow safer independent cooking. Food splatter guards can be custom made to suit the frying pan or other cooking device. The handle attached to the frying pan can also be custom made to suit the person.
