A keyguard is a plastic or metal overlay which fits over a standard or alternative keyboard to prevent accidental keystrokes and guide key selection. Keyguards are typically made from unbreakable materials and are mounted onto the keyboard via Velcro or Perspex attachments. They can also be customised for various devices such as expanded keyboards, one handed keyboards or miniature keyboards.
Workplace solutions and adjustments
Keyguards may be beneficial in the workplace for people who:
- have physical disabilities affecting motor control and coordination
- have muscle weakness within the hand requiring them to rest their hands frequently
- fatigue easily
- are learner typists improving their typing accuracy and who require assistance to stabilise fingers on the correct keys.
