Ladders—rolling safety

Rolling safety ladders are angled less steeply than regular ladders, making them easier to climb. They are often used by people who have difficulty with balance, climbing, or with heights. Rolling safety ladders include handrails and locking casters, promoting safety and support. Some rolling safety ladders may also have a working platform.

The selection and safe use of ladders should comply with Australian Standards.

Workplace solutions and adjustments

When using portable ladders the following safety principles should be considered:

  • all ladders should be placed on a secure footing
  • the ladder should be placed close to the work area to prevent over reaching
  • never work above the ladder rung which has been indicated as the highest standing level, generally the third rung from the top of the ladder
  • appropriate slip resistant footwear should be worn by the user.
