Working within the industrial, mechanical and construction industries often involves standing for long periods, adoption of awkward postures, lifting of heavy weights and awkward loads, and the use of gross and fine motor skills. These jobs usually require physical strength and endurance as well as the capacity to mobilise over a range of surfaces, including uneven surfaces. There are a range of tools and workshop workstation accessories that can reduce strain, minimise fatigue, maximise productivity and independent task completion for people with disabilities who work in these environments.
If a particular workstation adjustment or work tool is required due to a person’s disability, and is not something normally supplied by the employer under their Occupational Safety and Health requirements, consideration can be given to applying for funding assistance through the Employment Assistance Fund.
