When you employ new staff, the right person for the job might be someone who uses Auslan (Australian Sign Language) to communicate. The Employment Assistance Fund may be able to help cover the costs of Auslan interpreting in the workplace as well as training for co-workers of employees who are Deaf.
Employment Assistance Fund
The Employment Assistance Fund provides a range of modifications and support services to assist people with Disability, injury or illness in the workplace. The Fund includes access to Auslan courses and Disability Awareness Training for co-workers of Deaf employees.
As an employer, you may be eligible for financial assistance to help with the cost of Auslan interpreting services for employees who are Deaf. You may also be eligible to have staff who work with a Deaf employee trained in Auslan or for your staff to undertake Deaf awareness training.
