Help from your employment service provider
Australian Government employment Service providers can also help you find suitable employers. They may already have a number of contacts and be able to suggest potential employers. Your employment service provider may also do some reverse marketing, which is when they approach an employer to promote your skills and abilities.
If you are receiving assistance from a Disability Employment Services Program Provider you may have access to job vacancies available through the National Disability Recruitment Coordinator.
The National Disability Recruitment Coordinator develops relationships with large companies to promote the employment of people with disability and provides Disability Employment Services Program Providers with job vacancies. Ask your Disability Employment Services Program Provider for more information.
Employer organisations
Many employers who show leadership and initiative in the employment of people with disability are members of employer organisations like the Australian Network on Disability.
The Australian Network on Disability is a not for profit organisation funded by its members. The Network assists employers build skills and confidence when employing people with disability or interacting with customers with disability.
Among their many activities they:
- provide information on disability
- hold events that provide knowledge and networking opportunities
- develop customised tools
- assist businesses to implement the Charter for the Employment of People with Disability, to achieve best practice
- help organisations comply with the Disability Discrimination Act
- provide equality training.
