Workplace modifications and adjustments

As an employee with disability, you may not need any adjustments to the workplace to do your job.  If you do require adjustments, your employer should take into account your disability and make any appropriate adjustments to the work environment to accommodate you.  These adjustments are called ‘reasonable adjustments’ and they enable you to:
  • have equal opportunity to be considered for selection, appointment, promotion, transfer, training or other employment opportunity
  • perform the requirements of the relevant job
  • enjoy equal terms and conditions of employment.

Reasonable adjustments also minimise the impact of your disability on your employment and ensure safety in the workplace.

Financial help for workplace modifications

There is financial help available to help pay for the costs of workplace modifications and adjustments.

While the majority of workers with disability won’t require any workplace modifications, the Employment Assistance Fund aims to make accommodating employees with disability in the workplace easier.

What is the Employment Assistance Fund?

The Employment Assistance Fund provides assistance to employers of people with disability and mental health condition by providing financial assistance to purchase a range of work related modifications and services. Assistance is available for people who are about to start a job or who are currently working, as well as those who require assistance to find and prepare for work.
