Group Training Programs

Group training is an option to help you find an apprenticeship or traineeship as an Australian Apprentice.

Group Training Organisations employ you and then place you with host employers. Group Training Organisations are active in almost every industry and manage and monitor your apprenticeship or traineeship.

Group training can also help you find a permanent job when you complete your apprenticeship or traineeship.

The extra support you receive from Group Training Organisations through dedicated field officers makes employment through these organisations an excellent option for a range of people, including those with disability.

More information on group training is available through our Related Links.

There are several Group Training programs that can assist people with disability:

Group Training Australian Apprenticeships Targeted Initiatives Program

This program enables Group Training Organisations to generate quality Australian Apprenticeship opportunities in priority areas that would not otherwise happen without intervention. This includes areas where the achievement of successful Australian Apprenticeship outcomes requires additional time, resources or development effort.

Projects funded under the program must target identified equity groups, regional areas with high unemployment, new industry markets or higher level technical qualifications including Diploma and Advanced Diploma.

Group Training in the Trades Program

This program assists eligible people to undertake an Australian Apprenticeship in the trades. It creates opportunities by:

  • providing eligible participants with pre-vocational training in the trades to gain prerequisites to articulate into an Australian Apprenticeship in the trades
  • allowing students to undertake an Australian School based Apprenticeship in the trades while still completing their year 11 and 12 higher school certificate at school.

Particular focus is given to trade areas experiencing skill shortages or areas where Australian Apprenticeships in the trades are being under serviced, especially through Australian School-based Apprenticeships. People with disability along with others meeting certain criteria are eligible for this program.
