You have the right for personal information to be kept private. Information about your disability is personal information.

Your boss can’t ask nosy questions. And your boss can’t talk to other people about your disability unless you say it is OK. Your boss must ask you first.

Your boss must keep information about your disability private.

Your boss can ask you some questions about your disability

Your boss can ask about how your disability will change how you do the main tasks in your job.

And your boss can ask you about how to keep the workplace safe for you and everyone else.

But your boss can’t ask you nosy questions.

  • Your boss can ask you 'Will you need any changes so you can do your job?'
  • Your boss can ask you 'Will you need any changes to be made at your workplace?'
  • Your boss can ask you 'Have you got ideas about good ways to do your job?'
  • Your boss can ask you 'Do you have ideas for making the workplace safe?'
  • Your boss can’t ask you 'Do you take any pills?'
  • But your boss can ask 'Do you take any pills that might affect you, like making you feel sleepy or sick, which means you will not be able to do your job like you normally do?'
  • Your boss can’t ask you 'How are you going to be able to use the lawn edger?'
  • But your boss can ask 'Do you need some extra equipment to do the edges of the lawn?'
  • Your boss can’t ask you 'Are you sick a lot?'
  • But your boss can ask 'How will you let us know about your appointments with the doctor so we can sort out the best work roster?'
