Mental Health E-learning

The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations has developed a Mental Health Capacity Building e-learning training package for personnel who deliver the Disability Employment Service and Job Services Australia programs.

The training package is designed to help employment services assist people with mental illness to gain employment and to get the right help.

Employer Liaison Capability Framework

Disability Employment Australia and the Australian Human Resources Institute received funding under the Innovation Fund program to develop an Employer Liaison Capability Framework for Disability Employment Services.

The project helps Disability Employment Services to understand employer's expectations of Disability Employment Services. The Capability Framework outlines the skills that the business community expect from recruiters, including Disability Employment Services.

Changes to the National Disability Recruitment Coordinator Service

Following a review of the National Disability Recruitment Coordinator Service (NDRC), the Minister for Employment Participation, Early Childhood and Childcare, the Hon Kate Ellis MP has announced changes to the NDRC service model, and an extension of the contract until 30 June 2015, effective January 2013.

Extending this enhanced program for a further two years will enable the NDRC to work directly with more employers to help match their labour force needs with the skills and capacities of people with disability.

Employers Guide to Partnering with Disability Employment Services

The Employers Guide is a joint project of the Australian Network on Disability and Disability Employment Australia.

This guide aims to help build effective partnerships between Australian businesses and Disability Employment Services in order to recruit staff from the entire pool of talented Australians and to make it easier for candidates with disability to get and keep jobs.

The guide may also help create a shared understanding and language to assist Disability Employment Services and employers achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.

Employ Outside the Box

On 20 March 2012 the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry released a statement that encourages Australian employers to seriously consider all people as candidates to fill job vacancies.

The statement, Employ Outside the Box encourages employers to develop innovative strategies to attract employees to increase Australia’s labour force participation rate.
