Employers who support people with disability

Having a good relationship with disability confident employers can help you achieve employment outcomes for job seekers with disability.  Disability confident employers are likely to:
  • recognise the benefits to their business of employing people with disability
  • be genuinely inclusive of people with disability, putting policies into practice
  • be committed to implementing strategies to diversify their workforce.

Building relationships with employers

Working with the following organisations can help you build relationships with disability confident employers. 

The National Disability Recruitment Coordinator can help you build relationships with employers, particularly large and multi-site employers, by acting as an interface between your service and employers looking for staff with disability. The Australian Network on Disability is funded by employers to take a leadership role in advancing employment for people with disability. The Network helps employers build the skills and confidence to employ and interact with people with disability.  See our Related Links.

Diversity@work is a provider of consultancy services, resources and training to employers who want to proactively manage diversity. The organisation partners with many of Australia's leading organisations to create, implement and successfully manage workforce diversity and inclusion.  See our Related Links.

Prime Minister’s Employer of the Year Awards

The Prime Minister’s Employer of the Year Awards reward employers who work hard to employ and retain people with disability.  The Prime Minister’s Employer of the Year Awards is a highly successful national awards programme recognising excellence in the employment of people with disability.

The Awards acknowledge the contributions made by large, medium and small employers who provide employment opportunities for people with disability. The Awards also promote the efforts of Australian Government employment service providers.

Award winning employers show:

  • demonstrated leadership, innovation and creativity in the employment of people with disability
  • commitment to increasing the number and proportion of people employed with disability, proportionate to the size of the organisation
  • commitment to achieving sustainability in the employment of people with disability
  • commitment to achieving inclusion in the workplace for people with disability
  • commitment to improving workplace performance and productivity through the employment of people with disability.
