Retail—Work with an Award winning employer

A successful partnership between Coles and the National Disability Recruitment Coordinator has resulted in employment opportunities for hundreds of people with disability and a 2005 Prime Minister’s Employers of the Year Award for the program.

The National Disability Recruitment Coordinator, offers a single point of contact for the recruitment of employees with disability.

Bruno, Regional Manager Coles South Australia, was connected with the National Disability Recruitment Coordinator when he needed to find a night fill team who were committed to efficiency and productivity and would thus improve the operational efficiency of his stores.

The National Disability Recruitment Coordinator organised an enthusiastic group of new employees, and a productive partnership began.

Working with Disability Employment Services, the National Disability Recruitment Coordinator is able to:

  • negotiate a supply of jobs with employers
  • match suitable job seekers to vacant positions
  • broadcast vacancies and provide a screening service of potential candidates
  • provide up to date information about the recruitment of people with disability and any related issues
  • promote the employment of people with disability.

After employing people with disability in his store, operational efficiency has increased significantly, with no recorded lost time for injuries in almost a year.

Due to the initial success of the partnership, Coles has continued to employ people with disability across Australia, currently providing opportunities for over 400 people with disability to demonstrate their abilities.

Working with an organisation like the National Disability Recruitment Coordinator may offer service providers the opportunity to place job seekers with large employers who are likely to have on going demands for committed and enthusiastic staff.
