The Postal Concessions for the Blind Program, funded by the Australian Government Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, meets the postal charges for Braille, the Moon system of embossed reading and audio material sent to, or from, eligible individuals and or organisations.
Postal articles can include:
- correspondence, documents or literature wholly written in embossed characters as used by people who are blind—that is, Braille or Moon
- aids for teaching Braille to people who are blind
- plates for embossing literature for people who are blind
- special paper intended solely for people who are blind, on condition that any communication on the paper is wholly in Braille or Moon
- any form of speech recording for use by people who are blind.
Postal articles can only be sent to or by:
- a person who is blind
- any organisation or institution recognised by Australia Post as serving the needs of people who are blind.
