Job Access gives Gloria new lease on working life
Gloria Butler has retired twice so far.
“But there are only so many cakes you can cook or gardening you can do,” said the energetic 67-year-old with a laugh.
Butler’s rheumatoid arthritis resulting from hereditary autoimmune disease forced her out of the workforce on two previous occasions.
But she had so much more to give.
Gloria was absolutely thrilled when JobAccess – and our Professional Advisor Lynette Tieleman – provided a raft of workplace adjustments to allow her to resume work as an Employment Advocate for people with disability.
“I love my job with a passion, absolutely love it. If I can give somebody a helping hand, then that’s all the reward I need.
“But it just wouldn’t be possible without the fantastic support from JobAccess.”
Life-changing workplace support
“I am just so grateful. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Lynette (Tieleman) and JobAccess.
“What they have done is allowed me to come back to work. The support I got was just fantastic.
“With my back, my legs …”
Gloria is now working full-time for My Pathway, a support service for people with disability funded by the Federal Government with clients from Rockhampton to Cairns in far north Queensland.”
“My job is to help people, whatever their needs are.
Through the Employment Assistance Fund (EAF), JobAccess has provided workplace adjustments, including a specialist chair, table and computer keyboard.
“I wouldn’t have been able to work five days a week without the support and it has changed my life.
“I want to still be working when I am 80! Happy days.”
