Working with the National Ethnic Disability Alliance

People with disability from non-English speaking backgrounds often face additional barriers to access support services that could help them fully participate in society, including finding work.

That’s why the Department of Social Services has worked closely with the National Ethnic Disability Alliance (NEDA) as the national peak organisation representing people with disability, their families and carers, from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) and non-English speaking backgrounds (NESB).

This close working relationship has enabled the development of information sheets for people with disability in over 20 languages. The development process included the Department collaborating with NEDA to “road test” the information sheets in workshops with respective CALD communities across Australia. This process aims to help people access information about disability employment in their own language.
