Our job seekers

Our office is conveniently located in the heart of Yass close bus and shopping. NOVA services all the areas between Tahmoor to Yass.

Not only do we support people with significant barriers and disabilities wanting to find work (see Scott’s story) we also support people with existing workplace skills who have been overlooked in the past.  At NOVA, we treat our job seekers individually by making sure we listen to their goals and interests, and learn about their skills.

The following story details our job seeking on behalf of a job seeker with more prohibitive barriers:

Name: Scott

Barrier: Cerebral Palsy and moderate Intellectual Disability

Job: Apprentice Electrician

Scott receives support from the team at NOVA and the apprenticeship board to learn his tasks and meet his employer’s needs. The support provided onsite includes task books, visual cues, task analysis and travel training. Scott’s family has been integral to his success, sharing insights into his barriers, strengths and preferred learning style, which helps NOVA put together effective training and support in accordance with his learning abilities.

Entering the workforce has opened up many doors for Scott, including becoming more independent. His confidence has grown so much that NOVA has linked Scott to a service to help him find a place of his own through a community housing program that supports people with intellectual disabilities to live independently.

Contact NOVA and learn about how we can support you find and keep a long-term, award-wage job that suits your skills and interests.

Our employers

Employers

NOVA saves employers time and money by looking after the initial shortlisting of candidates. We then match the best candidate to the employer. NOVA listens to the employers’ needs and works in partnership with them to provide ongoing training and assistance to help new workers settle in and become productive members of the team.

We partner with businesses in a range of industries, including trucking and transport, childcare, aged care, hospitality, cleaning, animal care, IT, retail, home care, warehousing, factories, trades, security, nursing and other health care.

But don’t take our word for it, please read this testimonial from an employer who has partnered with NOVA

“Working with a person with a disability is a learning experience for all of us. It gives us all more understanding of the disabilities people have and that they can work and communicate like the rest of us. I would recommend that other businesses give NOVA Employment a call to help fill positions. They do a tremendous job. Christopher’s Employment Consultant has been professional in all dealings, making his transition into our workplace a memorable one.”

Our networks

NOVA makes connections by attending community functions and inviting local people to our employment and networking events. Connections with the community are vital to ensure that we provide the best possible service to our job seekers and link them to supports outside our expertise.

Our experience, reliability and great track record makes NOVA a dependable service with whom to work. NOVA staff really enjoy our jobs and this comes across with our contact with other services.

Our performance

Currently all our offices are achieving either 5 or 4 stars, and all ESA’s are 5 Stars. That means we are a high performing service and that’s not easy to achieve or maintain. Our job seekers becoming productive workers is the reason for our success.

Our approach: we will walk with you – we are serious about employment.  We pride our selves on our quality well trained staff who have an understanding of disabilities and want to work with people with disability.

Employment is the goal for every participant and we expect that our participants would not refuse a reasonable offer of employment.

Our extensive experience working with young people (33% of our job seekers are under the age of 25) and our commitment to finding long-term jobs for youth means that 100% of our Eligible School Leavers (youth with a significant disability) are in employment!  We work closely with schools to ensure that our local youth get a great start entering adulthood.

Our success with young people doesn’t mean our mature workers miss out. Forty-one per cent of our job seekers are aged over 46 and they draw from a range of life experiences. Overall, 38% of employment found for our job seekers is full time

About us

At NOVA, we pride ourselves on our personal service and success with finding and keeping great jobs for people with a disability. We’re always interested in our prospective job seekers’ stories. Listening to our jobseekers hopes, interests and fears ensures we can help them set achievable goals towards getting employment.

NOVA staff gain the trust of our job seekers, employers and networks very quickly, because we’re interested in them and committed to working together. We have a great reputation in the disability employment community and are involved in many community events, and have great links with schools. We link up with other local services such as mental health, housing and counselling. We hold workshops that encourage jobseekers to gain confidence and employment-related skills, including building resumes, understanding employer expectations and improving personal presentation.

The NOVA team is experienced in placing people with all types of disabilities and barriers into award-wage work. We understand that a successful long-term placement is a three-way win — good for the job seeker, the employer and NOVA. Nobody wants to waste time, energy and money through trialling a candidate who is not quite right. We aim to get it right the first time.

We enjoy the particular challenge of working with people to get them confident to picture themselves in work. One of the most satisfying things is to see these individuals change their opinion about the potential of work and making informed choices towards their employment goals.
