At our Southport Office (Gold Coast), Sign for Work helps people who are Deaf & Hard of Hearing gain meaningful and sustainable employment through our specialist Disability Employment Services.
The team at Sign for Work are aware of the communication barriers that make it difficult to find work and as a team we are committed to helping you succeed. Our staff are fluent in Auslan and provide tailored assistance to access the right supports, help you set employment goals, and further develop your skills and confidence.
Your first interview with your Sign for Work Employment Consultant will cover our service guarantee, what you can expect from us, and how we will assist you to gain and maintain employment. You will be encouraged to raise any questions or concerns, and clarify anything you don't understand.
Your tailored Sign for Work program may include:
- identifying your barriers and supporting you to manage these such as accessing mental health services
- accessing onsite training and workshops
- identifying suitable employment or training options
- building your skills through work experience, work trials
- job search assistance, resume development, cover letters, job applications
- building interview skills and confidence
- post placement support once you get a job, as well as ongoing support for as long as you need it
- Auslan and Deaf Awareness Training for your manager and co-workers
- Mentoring support in the workplace

In Victoria, Sign for Work assists people with any disability to get them ready for work. We also specialize in employment assistance for people who are Deaf & Hard of Hearing in both Victoria and Queensland.
When you work with Sign for Work we will:
- Work with you to determine the requirements of the job vacancy, provide job ready candidates who are the right match and keen to work.
- Undertake any necessary pre-employment screening, any required training or assessment.
- Work hard to prepare our job seekers to meet your business needs and all efforts are made to develop a suitable candidate list as quickly as possible.
- Assist you to access a range of Wage Subsidies up to $10,00 depending on our candidates eligibility.
- Provide intensive 6 months Post Placement Support for both the new employee and you as the Employer to ensure the job placement is a success. Ongoing Support beyond the first 6 months can be provided should you need it.
- In addition, for candidates who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing we can help your new employee access Auslan Interpreting of up to $5,000 per year for employee interviews, training and important meetings, as well as Deaf Awareness Training in your workplace.
- Help you access funding for Workplace Modifications to help your new employee with the new job.
- Help you improve diversity in your workplace
Our Offices are located in Melbourne and Brisbane Metro (including the Gold Coast), but our job seekers work with employers across the wider city and regional areas.

Sign for Work is a DES Provider successfully placing people into employment since 1998. We have been and continue to be a consistently high performing Provider of many years’ experience in Disability Employment.
Our story started from small beginnings as a business of Deaf Children Australia delivering specialist employment services for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing in Victoria. Deaf Children Australia is a not-for-profit organisation with a long history dating back to last century serving children who are Deaf.
Sign for Work has now grown to deliver Specialist Employment Services to Deaf & Hard of Hearing in Victoria and Queensland, as well as Disability Employment Services for people with any disability in Victoria. We assist hundreds of people into employment each year and are committed to making a real difference in the world, not only for people who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing but to people with any disability.
